Emily and Leonas’ IVF Journey With Thérapie Fertility 

Emily and Leona always knew that as a same sex couple they’d have to look to donor assisted reproduction when the time came to begin their family. After experiencing repeated failure at other clinics where they felt like a “paycheck”, they decided to turn to Thérapie Fertility for help. In this blog post, we share their story of bringing their daughter Alex into the world, with the help of the team at Thérapie Fertility. 

Meet Leona and Emily 

“I'm Emily.” Emily begins as she glances adoringly over at her wife who is holding their young daughter. Leona continues. “And I'm Leona. And this is Alex and we're from Kilcock in County Kildare.” 

Emily describes their experience at a previous clinic and how they made the decision to give Thérapie Fertility a try. “We were at another clinic for about a year before coming here. We did two rounds of IUI and a round of IVF with them but just kind of felt we were a number and a paycheck to them more so than anything else. And so, at that point we decided to move here, and it was completely different.” 

Where to start   

After deciding to move to Thérapie Fertility, the couple knew that they were in safe hands. “We were treated like people. And it was so black and white with information, like this is what's happening, this is what we're going to do, this is what might happen.” Emily carried on, "There were never any hidden surprises. And that made such a difference because we knew where we were all the time as well.”

When asked why they chose Thérapie Fertility over other options they may have had, Leona said it all came down to being treated with compassion and care. “We felt like we were actual people. We felt they really cared about us. You know everybody was just. Like even there was one day I was freaking out about medications and Jenny rang me. Just to be like, you know, you're okay, everything's fine. But that two-minute phone call made such a difference.”

I feel like when we started, we went in kind of clueless to the whole process and we went down a couple of avenues that we didn't need to go down at all. From having been at another clinic, and then going to Thérapie, there was such a difference in how cared for we were. We just weren't treated like a number.”
