"We Never Felt Different": Lisa & Mo's Journey to Parenthood with Thérapie Fertility

When Lisa from Dublin and Mo from Drogheda met, they knew early on that they both wanted children. What they didn't know yet was just how beautiful that journey would turn out to be.
As an LGBTQ+ couple, Lisa and Mo were drawn to Reciprocal IVF, a process where both partners play a role in the creation of embryos and subsequent pregnancy. Lisa had heard of Thérapie Fertility through friends in the community and after attending a free nurse consultation, they say their “minds were blown by the possibilities open to them.”
Sharing The Experience
Reciprocal IVF was always the plan. The process meant that both women had a physical role in the fertility treatment process, one providing the egg, the other carrying the baby. This meant that one parent would have a genetic link, and the other would have the physical connection of growing and carrying their child. Mo describes noticing little family traits emerging in the babies (spoiler alert; they had more than one baby), a reminder of that special genetic bond.
They also want to dispel a common myth: Reciprocal IVF doesn't have to be dramatically more expensive than standard IVF. At Thérapie Fertility, the cost was only a little more, and for them, the ability to share the experience so fully, made it more than worthwhile.
Taking Their Time
Lisa and Mo approached the process thoughtfully. Being a little older, they decided to bank embryos from both partners before moving on to trying for a pregnancy. They feel this gave them the best possible chance. They paused, got married, went on honeymoon, and returned ready to begin transfers.
Their road wasn't without heartache. Their first transfer ended in miscarriage which is a loss they describe with great tenderness, saying that “little person will always be part of their family.” Through that grief, the team at Thérapie Fertility provided care that left a lasting impression.
The Moment Everything Changed
After their loss, they asked Thérapie Fertility if they could transfer two embryos. While this isn’t standard for most people or couples, there are exceptions where two embryos may be transferred, and this was one of those cases. They were overjoyed to discover they were expecting twins. The moment they heard their babies cry for the first time, Lisa says it was “simply the most beautiful sound she'd ever heard.”
Today, Lisa and Mo are parents to twins, Roise and Cuan, and the love they have for them is, in their own words, "far too big to put into words." .
A Message to LGBTQ+ Couples
Both women are eager to recommend Thérapie Fertility to other LGBTQ+ couples considering fertility treatment, purely down to the fact that they were treated with such respect at every part of the process. At Thérapie Fertility, they say, “they never felt different.” They felt human, supported, and part of a family.
"If you're the type of couple who wants that extra layer of care and humanity, well that's exactly what you get at Thérapie Fertility."
