Health Insurance

Having health insurance for fertility treatment can make your fertility journey feel a little more manageable by helping to ease some of the financial pressure of care.

At Thérapie Fertility, we are approved by all major health insurers in Ireland, including VHI, Laya Healthcare and Irish Life Health. Your level of cover will depend on your individual policy, so we always recommend checking your benefits directly with your insurer before starting treatment.

Using your health insurance for fertility treatment

The way your health insurance benefits are applied will depend on both your insurer and your level of cover.

Some VHI policies operate on a direct settlement basis, meaning VHI pays the covered amount directly to the clinic and you pay any remaining balance. If you are a VHI member, our team can also check your level of cover for you.

For Irish Life Health and Laya Healthcare members, you may be entitled to a rebate towards eligible fertility services. In most cases, you will need to pay for treatment and submit your claim directly to your insurer for reimbursement. We can provide any supporting documentation required for your claim.

Before starting treatment, it is important to confirm exactly what benefits are available under your policy.

In addition to any health insurance benefits, individuals who pay tax in Ireland may be entitled to claim up to 20% tax relief on qualifying fertility treatment expenses. This can provide further support with the overall cost of treatment.

Your health insurance questions answered.

  • Some policies may contribute towards fertility preservation, depending on your insurer and level of cover. This may be relevant if you are considering options such as egg freezing or embryo freezing. Always check your policy before making treatment decisions.

  • Some health insurance policies may contribute towards fertility testing. This could include tests carried out before treatment or as part of fertility planning. Your insurer can confirm exactly what is covered under your policy.

  • Some private health insurance policies may contribute towards IVF costs, but cover depends on your individual insurer and policy. If you are looking for health insurance that covers IVF, check your Table of Benefits and speak directly with your insurer before starting treatment.

  • Your insurer may ask for receipts, invoices or treatment documentation. Our team will be happy to provide the documents you need, where possible, so you can submit your claim in accordance with your insurer’s process.
