Becoming a mother is something that both Ciara and Louise had dreamed of. After meeting and falling in love at a local pub, the pair knew that they’d need some assistance to grow their family when the time came. A few years later, they started looking into their options and found Thérapie Fertility. In this blog post, we share their story of bringing their son, Albie, into the world, with the help of the team at Thérapie Fertility.
Meet Louise and Ciara
“ My name is Louise.” Louise begins. “And I'm Ciara, and this is our son Albie,” Ciara continues, as their young son babbles away. “We were just in a local pub and we just met one day and I just I seen her and I couldn't take my eyes off her!”
After being together for a number of years, the pair decided that the time was right to start looking into their options for growing their family.
“It's something we both always wanted. And then obviously when we met it just felt right then. We just had the conversation. We googled and then we found Thérapie Fertility and it was the first option that came up.”
Where To Start
They describe attending Thérapie Fertility for the first time, during their free nurse consultation, and the overwhelming feeling of being at ease and feeling that this was the right clinic for them.
“It was amazing literally from the minute we came in the door and like the receptionist to everybody the whole team and we kind of knew when we came and had the consultation that we didn't need to look anywhere else. It was feeling of like happiness and home”
The Thérapie Fertility Experience
After deciding to go ahead with fertility treatment at Thérapie Fertility, Ciara and Louise told us how much they loved coming into the clinic for her appointments. “From the minute you walk in the door, everyone is just so welcoming, you know, so understanding. They go through everything with you. Make you feel at ease. You know, it's a big team effort here and you, you know, you feel involved in every step.”
They emphasised the way they felt as a same sex couple going through treatment at Thérapie Fertility and the importance of choosing a team that treats you with kindness and respect. “It definitely felt like we were treated like any normal person. Like I mean, we're all human beings at the end of the day and it doesn't matter your sex, it doesn't matter your sexual orientation, anything like that. We just felt welcomed no matter what... doesn't matter who you are, you're welcome.”
Reciprocal IVF
Speaking about the experience of Reciprocal IVF they said, “It was just like extraordinary to know that both of us have a part and in this day and age that we're able to have a child together and it's part of both of us and just amazing.”
Reciprocal IVF is an IVF treatment for same sex female couples where one partner gives the eggs to be used along with donor sperm to create embryos. The other partner will then become pregnant with one of those embryos, and in the future either of the partners may use the embryos.
Advice For Others
When asked what they would say to someone else who is in a similar situation, they pointed out the importance of support and teamwork. “Being more open with each other about how you're feeling going through the process. You need to be open and talk about your feelings a lot more. It’s a hard process. It's a long process and you know, sticking together is the main thing to do and being there for each other.”
